Hemp For Victory

Today, there are some major problems in the world of fashion. Between giant companies who use terrible labor practices and a lack of environmentally friendly options it’s pretty obvious that there is room for improvement. As consumers, we know what the problems are and what the repercussions are as well. However, we may not know that there are also solutions.

“I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act.” – Bill Gates

We must become more socially conscious as consumers. We need to understand that every dollar we spend is a vote. Who do we want to vote for? Do we vote for big companies that manufacture overseas?  Do we vote for companies that use life threatening labor practices in third world countries? Do we vote for fast fashion and their lack of concern for the environment?

Or

Do we vote for the underdogs? Do we vote for small American businesses that care about how they make their clothing?

There are currently tons of small and medium sized American Businesses out there who are putting out quality products that are made ethically. It’s up to us to support them. Let’s live in the solution.

Hemp: An Eco-Friendly Solution

Did you know that during WWII the American Government encouraged citizens to grow hemp? Well, they did. Here’s the video they put out:

So, what are the benefits of hemp?

  • Durability – Hemp has 3 times the tensile strength of cotton.
  • Eco-Friendly – Hemp doesn’t require chemicals for growth, needs less water, and doesn’t damage the soil it’s grown on.
  • Breaks in and gets softer over time.

“Clothing made from hemp incorporates all the beneficial qualities of an earth-friendly product and will likely last longer than clothing made of cotton and another fiber. The strong fibers make hemp clothing withstand harsh conditions, be it weather, work, or daily life. Blended with other fibers, hemp incorporates the desirable qualities of both textiles. The soft elasticity of cotton or the smooth texture of silk combined with the natural strength of hemp creates a whole new genre of fashion design.” - EFG

Here we have presented a small solution that we have come up with in the face of the fast fashion problem. To check out some other American Made items you can choose to support check out The American List.
