5 Letters From Johnny Cash To June Carter

Johnny Cash and June Carter were married on March 1st, 1968. They remained together until she passed away 35 years later. Now that its all said and done, they had one of the most classic love stories of all time. Johnny once wrote -

“There's unconditional love there. You hear that phrase a lot but it's real with me and her [June Carter]. She loves me in spite of everything, in spite of myself. She has saved my life more than once. She's always been there with her love, and it has certainly made me forget the pain for a long time, many times. When it gets dark and everybody's gone home and the lights are turned off, it's just me and her.”

Below, all written by Johnny, are some of his love letters to her.

1. Her 65th Birthday

June 23 1994

Odense, Denmark.

Happy Birthday Princess,

We get old and get use to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.

But once in awhile, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.

Happy Birthday Princess.

2. A To-Do List

3. After all the excitement of singing together ended.

The last two items of note are short and sweet, but they are probably my favorite two.

4. After she passed away

5. When asked his definition of paradise.

The lesson here is a simple one. If you want longevity in any relationship - you must nurture it.
