Ansel Adams was one of America's greatest photographers. He was best known for his black and white landscape photography and he was able to photograph every single national park in the United States. He was both a photography purist and an environmentalist. In 1980, president Jimmy Carter awarded Ansel the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is the highest civilian honor that can be given.
